  Teaching Philosophy

I teach political science, public policy, public administration, ethics, philosophy, and comparative religion. My teaching primarily serves adult learners and emphasizes analytical writing, evidence-based reasoning, and sustained engagement with contested questions.

My teaching is grounded in the belief that education should cultivate clarity, independence, and intellectual honesty. Students learn most effectively when they actively wrestle with ideas, test arguments, question assumptions, and develop confidence in their own reasoning.

Inquiry and dialogue are central to my classroom. I encourage students to approach complex questions with curiosity, evaluate competing perspectives fairly, and revise their conclusions when evidence warrants it. Disagreement is treated not as conflict to avoid, but as an opportunity to deepen understanding through careful listening and respectful analysis.

I balance clear structure with flexibility, using analytical writing, close reading, discussion, problem-centered activities, and guided reflection. These methods help students distinguish claims from evidence, identify assumptions, evaluate arguments, and communicate their views clearly.

I approach assessment as an ongoing conversation focused on growth. Feedback identifies strengths, clarifies areas for improvement, and provides concrete strategies for developing stronger reasoning and writing.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students develop sound judgment: the ability to navigate complexity, reason responsibly, and exercise intellectual freedom with care.
